Who we are

Nail It DIY CIC runs practical workshops for women, by women. Scroll for new dates.

We run short, hands-on sessions covering essential home maintenance, basic tool skills and more — all in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. There’s no such thing as a silly question — if you’re thinking it, someone else probably is too.

We’re a Community Interest Company (CIC), which means everything we do is focused on community impact, not profit. Our aim is to empower women with practical skills, build confidence, and create a welcoming space to learn together.

We’re also working with local councils and partners to remove barriers and widen access, so more women can benefit from learning skills that make a real difference in everyday life.

Woodwork coming soon.

Who we are

Helping women feel confident tackling every day DIY.

Nail It DIY was founded by Sarah and Justine to help women feel more confident tackling DIY. Sarah is a fully qualified electrician who brings real trade knowledge and practical expertise to every session. Justine brings over 20 years of experience running fun, hands-on workshops that make learning new skills feel relaxed and achievable. Together they combine professional skills with a friendly, supportive approach to make DIY more accessible — and a lot less intimidating.

We currently run three workshops: DIY One, Home Maintenance & Tiling Basics. (Woodwork coming very soon.)

All are standalone sessions, so you don't need to take them in a particular order.

They're designed with beginners in mind and some people choose to book two on the same day.

Tiling Basics

WHAT TO EXPECT

Tiling Basics (£80) is a practical, hands-on introduction to tiling, designed for complete beginners. You’ll learn how to plan and prepare for a tiling job, measure and mark out your space, work out where to start and get your tiles straight and level. We’ll cover the tools and materials you’ll need, how to cut tiles safely, apply adhesive and position tiles correctly, including working around obstacles. You’ll also learn the basics of grouting and finishing for a neat, professional-looking result. There’ll be plenty of time to practise the techniques yourself, so you can leave feeling confident about tackling a straightforward tiling project at home.

DIY One

WHAT TO EXPECT

DIY One (£98) takes the core skills you may have already learnt in our tasters (not required!) and elevates them to the next level. DIY One is designed to give you real confidence using the most common tools you'll encounter at home - safely, correctly, and without fear. You'll learn how a combi drill works (including drill bits, settings and what they mean) and practice drilling and cutting into materials like wood, plastic, plasterboard and metal. You'll also be introduced to a range of power tools - including SDS drills, impact drivers, multitools, sanders, jigsaws and a chop saw - with supervised, hands-on use, so you can understand what each tool is for and when you'd reach for it. Alongside this, we cover essential hand tools and accuracy skills such as measuring, marking up, levelling, fixing and fastening, as well as what to do if something goes wrong, so you can leave with a solid foundation you can apply to everyday DIY jobs at home.

Please note: course content may vary slightly from session to session.

Home Maintenance

WHAT TO EXPECT

Home Maintenance (£120) focuses on the practical jobs that keep a home running - starting with basic electrical tasks. You'll learn how to safely turn off your power, change light switches, socket faceplates, basic pendants, dimmer switches and USB sockets, and when you need to call an electrician. Beyond electrics, the workshop covers key basic plumbing and household maintenance skills, including bleeding radiators, basic tap changes and U-bends. We also look at practical home repairs such as replacing door handles, adjusting kitchen unit hinges, repairing stud walls and filling holes properly, sealant guns, and multimeters - giving you the confidence to tackle common problems and to know your limits.

Please note: course content may vary slightly from session to session.
